Philosophy Of Nursing Service Department
The department of Nursing service of the Pushpagiri Hospital recognizes and appreciates the objectives of the hospital and acknowledges that the primary purpose of nursing is to provide the highest quality of nursing care by assisting the patients in with all their skills. The Nursing department of the hospital is to administer high quality, most effective care to patients and families to provide health promotion programmes to all people. Nursing service a major service resource of the hospital is organized within the frame work of the hospital system to achieve its goal. Nursing care services is clearly and directly related to the continuing growth and development of nursing personnel and the scientific excellence of modern medicine can be a benefit to people with flexible and creative interacting relationship.
Pushpagiri CNGI Unit (CATHOLIC NURSES GUILD OF INDIA)
As from a small unit of members, the Pushpagiri Medical College Hospital has started this organization to about 346 members. In Pushpagiri, the CNGI members include staff nurses and student nurses. In every year, in the month of February, we celebrate the feast of Lourde Mary. On this day, we give membership to the new members to this organization.
In Pushpagiri Unit, the CNGI meeting is conducted on the third Saturday of every month. On this day, there will be report reading of the previous meeting followed by a programme which will be related to any story of Bible or any life story of Blessed Holy Saints. Otherwise, there will be a talk conducted by fathers, sisters, teachers etc. In every meeting, our spiritual director will give us more valuable advices. Sr. Sevana SIC has been the president of the CNGI for the past few years. She is interested in our spiritual activities and also give us valuable corrections regarding CNGI programmes. Every year, we conduct elections and select new office bearers.
In a short, our CNGI unit is actively continuing with spiritual activities. So, being a member of this unit, we are proud of developing our spiritual mind in professional activities.

Pushpagiri TNAI Unit (TRAINED NURSES ASSOCIATION OF INDIA)
Kerala TNAI unit consists of four zones. East zone consists of 42 institutions. One of the east zone institutions is Pushpagiri Medical College hospital. Pushpagiri TNAI unit has about 400 members. Every year more than 75 members taking membership in TNAI association which includes,

Giving excellent inservice education to the Staff nurses which is taken by expert doctors and graduate nurses.
- Conducting cultural activities between the Staffs in the association
- Giving moral service for the poor people
- Monthly TNAI meeting
TNAI Pushpagiri Unit conducted Nurses’ Week Celebration – 2008
Pushpagiri Nurses’ week celebration started on 6th May 2008 which is inaugurated by Dr. Ashok Philip Oommen, Medical Superintendent, Pushpagiri Medical College Hospital, followed by unfolding of this year’s theme. The theme was “Delivering quality, Serving Communities, Nurses leading primary health care”. On 8th May at 2 p.m. a team of 30 members departed to “Deivaparipalana Kendram, Kunnamthanam” to visit the inmates of this Orphanage. On 9th May, TNAI members organized a discussion meeting with Chief Executive Officer. The discussion was about the last year’s theme evaluation “Improving patient care and nurses safety”. On 10th May, TNAI conducted various cultural activities and competitions. Closing ceremony was on 12th may with award distribution for the best nurses.

Purpose
The Purpose of Nursing Service in Pushpagiri Medical College Hospital is to continue healing mission of Jesus Christ. Christian charity is the inner dynamism of all health services, thereby Nursing Service of this hospital fulfills its mission by providing high quality comprehensive, holistic care to all who seek treatment with the provision of learning opportunities for students in Medicine, Nursing and Allied Health Sciences. Research is encouraged to identify new treatment regimens and to promote high quality health care for generations to come.
Objectives
- To give the highest possible quality nursing care through holistic approach to clients
- To carry out the therapies prescribed by the Physician
- To promote programmes of nursing education to provide facilities for the development of all categories of Nursing personnel
- To promote evidence based nursing practice by encouraging nursing researches among nursing personnel.
- To asses the quality of nursing service and continuously build facilities and prepare personnel to improve upon this quality.
- To promote participation into the allied health organizations and to support community activities.
Mode of Nurses Recruitment
Recruitment and Appointment are done by HR Management and Nursing Superintendent. Appointment is given for two year’s contract basis only. Those who are willing to become a Permanent employee, will be given a chance
Line of Authority
Nursing staff have the TNAI and CNE (continuing Nursing Education) programmes conducted here. Promotions are on the basis of the strict evaluation by the Nursing Superintendent and Departmental Sisters only.
The Nursing department consisted by Staff Nurses, Bond Nurses, Contract Staff Nurses, B.Sc Interns , Health Workers and Nursing Orderleys.
Permanent Staff will get 30 days annual leave, 15 days casual leave, 13 public holidays and Medical Allowances.
