Pharmacology

Overview

In this department we are giving training to the undergraduate medical students and BSc Nursing students. Pharmacology is a branched Modern Medicine that includes History, source, Physiochemical properties, dosage forms, methods of administration, absorption, distribution, mechanism of action, physiological and Biochemical changes produced within the body, biotransformation, excretion, clinical uses and adverse effects of drugs.

The students are taught with all the most modern audiovisual equipments with participation of the students. They are free to discuss their views and ideas with the teachers.

Our aim in training these students is that at the end of the course, they shall be able to prescribe drugs for common ailments, should recognize adverse reactions and interactions of commonly used drugs and should use the appropriate drugs in a particular disease with consideration to its cost, efficacy and safety.

Practical knowledge of use of drugs in clinical practice will be acquired through integrated teaching with clinical departments.

Facilities

At present the department is having all the facility for teaching undergraduate medical students. There are well equipped separate laboratories for Pharmacy, Clinical pharmacology and also for doing experimental pharmacology practicals. There is an animal house under the departments for the easy supply of experimental animals for the practicals. We are planning to start research activities in the near future.

There is a well arranged museum in the department. We can see the history of Medicine with Photographs of Scientists and illustrations, Medicinal plants, poisonous plants of Toxicological importance in the museum. Commonly used drugs are arranged according to their clinical use which will help the students in easy understanding of all. The adverse drug reactions and their managements are clearly depicted in pictures so that the students will never forget them in their future. There are well qualified and highly experienced teachers for giving guidance to the students.
